Sepang, October 24th 2009

Dani will be race from the third position on Sunday at Sepang, October 24th 2009. Despite his success being the quickest in Free Practice session before hand, he didn’t get the pole-sitter tomorrow. But, he still in front of his rival, Casey Stoner.

“At the end of the qualifying session I didn’t make a very good job of it with the last soft Bridgestone tyre so my laptime doesn’t reflect our full potential this afternoon,” said Pedrosa, whose best lap was a whopping 0.736sec from Rossi.

“First I made a couple of mistakes and then I had some traffic which caused me to lose a little bit of the concentration you need to go at maximum pace at this moment.

Dani qualified third at Phillip Island| admin | MotoGP, Results

Pedrosa managed to qualify third despite his heavy fall on Australian MotoGP Qualifying.

Here’s a quote from motogp.com

Pedrosa stated, “It was very close. I crashed in the middle of the session and I lost my rhythm as I had to go back out on my second bike.”

“It is good to be on the front row but the first two (Rossi and Stoner) are a little bit faster, so we will have to work hard for the race. It will be very important to be constant as the race will be long and we just need to improve.”

As to whether he could expect to fight for victory, he remarked, “We will see what the conditions are like and see how everything looks. If we can improve our pace then we will be trying to be as fast as we can, but we know it is going to be tough tomorrow. Casey will try to pull away and Valentino will try to follow him right from the start, so it is going to be hard.”

Meanwhile, trying to assess what had happened when he crashed, Pedrosa also stated, “It was at high speed on the way into Turn Two so it’s a relief that I wasn’t injured and I was able go straight back out on track for the second half of the session. I’m not sure yet why I fell – I just touched the brake and boom – I was down. We’ll take a look at the data and try to find out exactly what happened.”

Casey Stoner took the pole on his home-race, championship leader, Rossi, was second, and Lorenzo was fourth.

Dani Pedrosa got a unique experience earlier this week when he competed against Red Bull Air Race pilot Alejandro Maclean. In the unique ground (Pedrosa on his bike) vs air (Maclean on his plane) battle, Maclean was declared the winner, but I’m sure it’s a great experience for both. Before the race, Dani also got to taste the Red Bull Air Race!
